Kabuli rice

When i first started this blog, i just wanted to share all the places that we've explored while staying at a certain place. I did think of including top spot eating places but after much thought, i decided not to do that. My reason is simple, food to me is subjective, a dish might be delicious to me tapi biasa2 ja to others. I dont want people to say "apa laa minah ni dlm blog kata sedap gila la best la tapi aku rasa biasa ja... kat **** lagi sedap" I'm not choosy when it comes to food... takat kurang sikit2 tu tak de hal lah. Unless betui2 tawaq hebiaq ( bak kata org kampung saya tasteless) then i'll say x sedap... apart from that saya bedal jer... Some people have sensitive taste bud, tau aje kurang asam la, kurang manis la, telebih masin la, terlebih masak la, so to avoid clash i think it's better not to go there...

Having said that, my entry title totally tells the opposite. Hehehe jangan maraaaa aaaa. This is exceptional because... this rice is like no other, the taste, the accompanying dish memang kena sesangat lah and it has become our favorite dish the whole time we were there. Kalau di KL everyone is talking about nasi mandi that's originally from Yamen, in Oman it's definitely nasi kabuli. Setakat yang kami duduk kl 2 tahun lepas, we've never found this rice at any Arabic restaurants... yg banyak nasi mandi tu pun rasanya lain sikit dari yg kami pernah makan di Oman. well cakap banyak pun x guna la kan ...cer kita tengok gamabr kt bawah ni..

ok, let me tell u a little bit about this pic first. This was taken when my in laws came to visit. Datang tgk cucu. The person on the right is my mother in law holding my daughter, the third person from right is a friend of ours who is working in Oman. The two ladies from far right are among the first few people we met when we first arrived. Their husbands has worked in Oman for years but they are no longer there. The girl third from right is a niece to the lady far right if i'm not mistaken. She also came for a visit. This is what we usually do when any of our family came to visit. There always somebody who would want to have a get together.

This is the only picture i have of this nasi kabuli... this is at bin atiq restaurant. Yg bestnya banyak restaurant  kat sana pakai konsep bilik... maknanya dalam restaurant tu ada banyak bilik2 with different sizes. Dalam bilik tu plak x de meja kerusi... semua duduk bersila, ada la kusyen untuk duduk yg selalunya warna merah hitam tu. Kalau dekat restoran2 arab kan ada. It gives us privacy laaa... sebab ada pintu... kalau nak panggil waiter ada suis yg macam bell la ... bila tekan jap lagi ada la org datang... I like it.

Kalau org2 sana yg makan they usually eat in the dulang itself, tapi kami ni slalunya pegi makan ramai2 so we usually asked them to bring plates.... Untuk Omani men, satu talam ni mayb boleh makan 4/5 org... tu pun kira ramai kot. For us satu talam, dekat 10 org buleh makan...

Nasi kabuli ni usually comes with salad and a special sos, dia punya main accompanying dish boleh pilih, ayam ka, lamb ka, fish ka...and many more. Almost always we will choose chicken...sebab ayam dia memang marvelous, ni main teka2 ja la ni, rasanya dia ada letak certain spices (bukan takat letak, garam kunyit ok)and then deep fry... fuhhh describing  ni pun dah duk telan air liur.... teringat kesedapan ayam tu. Sos nya pulak, berdasarkan perbincangan kakak2 yg terra masak kt sana diorang kata mayb cili sikit di blend dgn tomato...and di letak perasa... sebab sos dia x pedas sgt, kira rasa cili ngan tomato tu masuk aaa..... sedappppp. Nasi dia pulak nak kata mcm briyani x jugak sebab nasik dia x berminyak mcm briyani, Campuran rempah2 untuk nasi tu memang sedap lah.... huhuhu if i have lots of money i will buy a ticket to Oman just to have this rice one more time. Hopefully ada la rezeki kami untuk merasa nasi ni lagi.... insyaAllah..
