Kampung Budaya Sarawak (Sarawak Cultural Village)

This is another main attraction in Kuching and definitely a must go n see. Unlike the Sarawak river cruise, this is highly recommended and have to be in the must see list when you first visit Sarawak.

Also known as the living museum, it is located at Pantai Damai Santubung, 32 km from Kuching. That means about 40 minutes drive from our house. There's also shuttle services from Holiday Inn Kuching and Crowne Plaza Riverside and you can check it here. If you are planning on taking a taxi you might want to reconsider coz it might cost a lot and there's a question of getting a taxi back to Kuching.

Here you can see replicas of buildings that represent every major ethnic group in Sarawak; longhouses of the Iban, Bidayuh and Orang Ulu, a Melanau tall-house and a Chinese farm house among others. There are also people living in the village, they will demonstrate traditional daily activities from Sarawak's diverse tribes like the processing of sago and the making of handicrafts. You can also buy the handicrafts and the freshly made traditional food there. There's also a mini theatre, where you can enjoy multicultural dance performances. Besides this, there is a restaurant and handicraft shop.

The entrance fee is rm60 for adults, rm30 for children and free for children below 6 yo. Wait...wait..wait... i know the ticket price seem like a lot... but u can have my word on this it is worth every cent. Plus u get to keep the passport like book where u get the stamp for every replica house u visit. That should be fun for the kids...and some adults too..

Opening hours is 9am - 5pm daily... and there are 2 cultural shows daily, one is at 11.30am-12.15pm and another is at 4pm-4.45pm. Make sure you plan your visit so that you can enjoy the cultural show as well as the replicas houses.

ok..my parents have officially became my models ... hehehe tau kat diorang ni mau demand payment ni... here is at the entrance

Some of the replica houses...in these houses is where u can see how they make crafts and traditional snacks..they also exhibits antiques.

These three pics were taken when my sil came for a visit.. I didn't go with them but my daughter did.. the first pic was inside the long house and the second pic was inside iban house if i'm not mistaken... finally the third pic was in front of the long house.

the crafts that they were doing...there are different crafts at different houses

My daughter who likes to try almost anything ... This is at Rumah Orang Penan...who likes to look at sexy man with tattoos this is the place... it won't be awkward when u take pics cause everybody else is doing it

Ni bridge famous ni... kalau x lalu n snap pics tak sah... mana ada mcm ni kt semenanjung..

This is in front of the theater... see the background, gunung diseliputi kabus...that's Gunung Santubung... yes, kampung budaya ni betul2 di kaki gunung Santubung.... Just in case ada yang kompius... this pic and the first one was taken when my parents came to visit... the pics in between was taken when we went there the first time just the 4 of us...

Here are some preview to the cultural show... these are only a few... the show runs for nearly an hour... and it's nice to watch too... then again.. at the end of the show the dancers will come down to the audience and drag some people up there to dance with them on the stage... This is the part I always pray I'm not choosen..so I'll do all the tricks in the book..eg. looking down..never look directly at them...hahaha rasa mcm kt sek plak dulu2 takut cikgu yg garang2 panggei nama tunduk jaa. My parents totally skip the show... my father had the same reason as me because he's been to Kuching n Cultural village so he knows what they'll do.. my mom's reason was... alahhh show2 ni slalu dah tgk kt tv..hhhmmmm ok lah mak... cakap mak jgn di lawan.. But I did watch the show when I went there with mr. hubby and the kids. That's why I can say it's worth every cent u pay...
